Charles Glen Kennedy

Charles Glen Kennedy, son of the late Joseph Daniel and Perly Mae (Freeman) Kennedy, was born on July 23, 1934 in Douglas County, Missouri, and departed this life on Monday, February 3, 2014, at his home east of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, at 79 years of age.

Glen lived in Douglas County until the age of five and moved with his family to Texas County. He attended Walnut Grove School.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Reed on September 10, 1956 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. Three children, Glenda, Edward “Buddy,” and Paul, were born to this union. They raised their family and made their home for over 57 years east of Mtn. Grove, where he was living at the time of his passing.

Glen was employed as a school bus driver for Mtn. Grove Schools and was accident free for over 33 years.

Glen enjoyed being outdoors, riding his four-wheeler, camping, fishing, hunting, and earlier in life, cutting wood. He also liked piddling in his shop and working on cars.

Glen was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them and family get-togethers. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was saved at a young age and was a member of Mtn. Grove Full Gospel Church. He enjoyed attending services as long as his health permitted.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Edward Glen “Buddy” Kennedy; two brothers, Roy Nelson Kennedy and Edward Fletcher Kennedy; and an infant sister.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Kennedy of their home; his son, Paul Kennedy and wife Debbie of Vanzant, Missouri; his daughter, Glenda Kentner and husband Ronnie of West Plains, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, Chris Kentner and wife Toni of Mtn. View, Missouri, Joey Kentner of West Plains, Katie Kentner of West Plains, Dustin Kennedy and wife Janice of Hutchinson, Kansas, Paul Edward Kennedy and wife Beth of Drury, Missouri, Kytle Gibson and Nancy of Vanzant, Atasha Gibson of Success, Missouri, Kenny Gibson and wife Heather of Mtn. Grove, Kevin Gibson and wife Jennifer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tammy Burdic and husband Jerry of Lebanon, Missouri, David Ward of Grovespring, Missouri, and Kimberly Scott and husband Jeremy of Bellingham, Washington; 22 great-grandchildren and one on the way; a special nephew, Charles Kennedy; a special niece, Margie Tooley; four sisters-in-law, Sharrion Vandivort and husband Bill of Houston, Missouri, Geneva Scheets and husband Benny of Cabool, Missouri, Janice Duke and husband Duane, and Patty Reed of Cabool; two brothers-in-law, Junior Reed of Mtn. Grove and Billy Reed of Lebanon; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014, in Mtn. Grove Full Gospel Church with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. Bob and Susie Miller will provide the singing. Song selections will be “I Can Only Imagine,” “Drinking From My Saucer,” and “I’ll Fly Away.” Pallbearers will be Chris Kentner, Joey Kentner, Paul Edward Kennedy, Kenny Gibson, Pat Thornton, and Joey Dodd. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Douglas County under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Chapel.
