Bobby Jack Hayes

Bobby Jack Hayes, 44, of Ellis Prairie, Missouri, passed away at home on August 20, 2013.

He was born February 24, 1969 at Houston, Missouri, to Larry and Bonnie (Kirkwood) Hayes.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Fred “Jack” Hayes and Elmer Kirkwood; a grandmother, Vivian Kirkwood; and two uncles, Bruce Hayes and Lee Kirkwood.

He is survived by his parents; his wife Kris of Ellis Prairie; his grandmother, Bettye Hayes of Houston; his children, Shai Roark and husband Shane of Vanzant, Missouri, Kyler Hayes and wife Tori of Cabool, Missouri, Tyann Nettleton and husband Shane of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, Brody Hayes and Kim Calus of Mtn. Grove, and Jon, Adale and Ellie of the home; a sister, Karri Keller and husband Kaven, a niece, Sierra, and a nephew, Kayden, all of Summersville, Missouri; a grandson, Caseten Shrade Nettleton, and a granddaughter, Elsie Raye Roark, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bobby grew up and lived his entire life at Ellis Prairie among his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He, along with his two best friends and cousins, Cindy Smith Stafford and Carl Shelton, attended kindergarten through eighth grade at Success and high school in Houston, graduating in 1987.

During his life, Bobby farmed, milked cows, hauled cattle and worked at the sale barn for Dr. Taylor. In 1984, he and his family started Hayes Dairy in addition to Hayes Logging and later expanded with Hayes Cattle Hauling and beef cows in 2009. Whether it was hauling cattle, working horses or chasing coonhounds, Bobby was the happiest when outside just living life. He also shared a passion for horses with his dad and sons. They traveled all over Missouri to horse pulls and sales. He took great pride in each of his children showing livestock at the Texas County Fair and was a huge supporter of the event.

In 2008, Bobby married Kris, the love of his life. Together they hosted an annual hog roast and loved filling their yard with 100-plus of their dearest family and friends. Shortly after their marriage, Bobby was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. For the last four years they have traveled down a path that sometimes seemed unbearable, but they did it together, through sickness and through health, for better and for worse.

Bobby began going back to Ellis Prairie Church, where he had attended with his mother as a child. He never missed a Sunday, no matter how sick or tired he was. It became one of the most important things in his life. Faith led him to be baptized on July 28 of this year.

Bobby’s love for his family and friends and his strength through faith is a legacy for those who mourn his loss.

The family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Bobby Hayes Scholarship Fund, in lieu of floral arrangements.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Ellis Prairie Baptist Church with Ralph Baker officiating. Pallbearers were Kyler Hayes, Brody Hayes, Jon Bradshaw, Eryc Koch, Bobby Blackburn, Roger Lee Hayes, Carl Shelton, Chuck Miller and Rodney Neugebauer. Burial was in Ellis Prairie Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
