Lena Isabella (Pool) Duey was welcomed into the arms of her loving Savior on Tuesday, August 13, 2013.
She was born on October 26, 1925 at the home of her paternal grandparents north of Cabool, Missouri. Lena Bell was the firstborn child of Elwyn A. and Ethel (Archer) Pool and was 87 years, 10 months, and 19 days old at the time of her passing.
She grew up in Texas County and after graduating from Cabool High School in 1944, went to work at the Brown Shoe factory in Mountain Grove, Missouri. While employed there, she met and married the love of her life, Eldon F. Duey, on August 10, 1947. They were married 66 years, and five children were born to this union.
Lena Bell always had a soft spot in her heart for children who were in need of a loving home and family. For that reason, Lena Bell and Eldon opened their home to foster children and adopted four of the children they fostered.
Most of Lena Bell’s married life was spent being a wife, mother, and homemaker. As grandchildren came into their lives, Lena Bell had so much fun dressing them that it soon morphed into a retail store she named The Mother Goose House.
Lena Bell was a longtime member of Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Mountain Grove. She especially had a heart for children and missions. She served as a Sunday school teacher, caravan leader, and missions education director. She touched many lives for Jesus while working tirelessly in these areas.
Besides her parents, Lena Bell was preceded in death by a son, William Jay, and both siblings, Gene Pool and Joetta (Pool) Strickland.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon F. Duey, and children Carl and Judi Duey of Bethany, Oklahoma, George and Elaine Duey of Mountain Grove, Gay and Sam Hunsaker of Saint Peters, Missouri, Fay and Larry Gossen of Springfield, Missouri, Kay and Lance Wright of Olathe, Kansas, Robert and Kim Duey of Peculiar, Missouri, Jim Duey of Leawood, Kansas, and Anne and Dan Fellers of Mountain Grove; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends, and church family.
Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Mtn. Grove. Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Faith Community Church of the Nazarene for the baptistery.
