Memorial services for Ralph Eugene Quinton, 83, of Oologah, Oklahoma, will be at 10:00 a.m. January 24, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Talala, Oklahoma. Jack Taylor and Lester Orwig will be officiating.
Ralph was born March 19, 1929 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to Joe Alexander and Ethel Marie (Mills) Quinton. Ralph thought very fondly of his stepfather, Peelie Mills, who raised him from the time he was a young boy.
Ralph passed away in his home to live a life forever with our Lord on Sunday, January 20, 2013.
He was raised and received his education in country schools in the Talala and Winganon areas with a high school diploma from Nowata, Oklahoma, in 1948. He entered the armed forces of the United States Coast Guard on July 28, 1948 and was honorably discharged on July 27, 1951 with a Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal.
Ralph was employed as a cowhand on Todd Ranch, in bridge construction, as a surveyor, a singer and player of the guitar at various locations, a cook at Sexton’s Barbecue, and he made and sold barbecue spice mix to his brother, “Smokey Joe” Quinton.
On June 4, 1994 Ralph married Connie Moore and they made their home in Oologah for 18½ years. With Connie’s encouragement, Ralph attended church, became a Christian, and joined Talala First Baptist Church.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Alexander Quinton and Ethel Marie Mills; his stepfather, Peelie Mills; and a brother, Joe Quinton.
Survivors include his wife, Connie of the home; two daughters, Martha (Carl) Crabtree of Elk Creek, Missouri, and Ellen Letterman of Springdale, Arkansas; one son, Ralph Eugene (Karen) Quinton, II of Neosho, Missouri; two stepsons, Robert (Julia) Moore of Spavinaw, Oklahoma, and Bryan (LaReesa) of Talala, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, Curtis, Timothy, Christina, Rebecca, Jennifer, Matthew, Amanda, Jami, Austin, Sierra, Savannah, Trystan, Braxton and Ashley; 19 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Joshua, Yader, Robby, Abbey, Christian, Taylor, Hunter, McKenzie, Wyatt, Ireta, Linsey, Ashley, Emily, Whitney, Sydney, McKaila, Hunter and Kally; a sister-in-law, Sheryl Quinton of Nowata, Oklahoma; one nephew, Joe E. Quinton; one great-niece, Chelsea; and one great-great-nephew, Quinton.
Pallbearers are Matthew Quinton, Curtis Crabtree, Mike Waymore, Rob Rose, Cliff Garrigus and Joshua Meltzer. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Hodson, Terry Elliott, Austin Moore, Timothy Crabtree, Robert Moore, Bryan Moore and Joe E. Quinton.
