Varel Winona Noel, 97, daughter of Isaac and Aillia (Vandiver) Varnell, was born March 15, 1915 in Texas County, Missouri. She passed away March 9, 2013 at Houston House in Houston, Missouri.
She grew up in Fairview and Bado area of Texas County.
Varel married Horace M. Noel on August 10, 1932. They had two girls and one boy, Verla, Sharon and Kenneth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother and five sisters.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Noel and wife Delores of Bakersfield, California; her daughters, Verla Simmons and husband Charles of Hamilton, Ohio, and Sharon Transmeier of Houston, Missouri; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many more family members.
Varel operated country stores at Bendavis, Fairview and Dykes. When Varel and Horace moved to Houston she worked for The Walnut Store and then became a regular at the senior center quilting. She loved quilting and sewing all kinds and she really enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. The top of the list of enjoyment was going to garage sales.
Her family was very important to her. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Evans Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church, Fairview, with Pastor Kenneth Noel and grandson Barry Koerner officiating. Pallbearers will be Montie Friend, Norman Freeman, Barry Koerner, Steve Koerner, Roland Smyer and Scott Collins. Burial will be in Bado Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
