Michael Ray “Biggs” Johnson

Michael Ray “Biggs” Johnson, 23 of Cabool, Missouri, was born on September 8, 1989 in Mansfield, Missouri, the son of Danny and Debbie (Bayless) Johnson. He went to be with Jesus on September 8, 2012.

Michael graduated with the Cabool High School Class of 2008 where he was very active in football, baseball, basketball, track and the Iron Dog meets. He worked for a short time at Town & Country Grocery Store in Cabool while in school and attended one semester at Drury University after graduation. He then went to work at El Imperial as a cook in the evenings and worked as a bricklayer during the day, all the while still making time for church, family and friends; these were very important to Michael. He wrote, “God’s love is unconditional, no matter how many times you leave Him, or no matter how many mistakes you make, He will always take you back and forgive you. I love you, God, for every day, through the good and the bad, and I thank you for taking me back.”

Michael was a blessing to so many lives. He wanted to make sure that everyone knew about Jesus, his friends and family both. If they were down, he would try to lift them up; he seemed to always know the right words to say that helped.

Michael attended Mtn. Grove Full Gospel Church. Many times he would invite or bring a friend to church. He was saved at a young age; at the age of 8 he was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost; at the age of 16 he became a Sunday school teacher for the primary class; at 17 he helped with children’s church for four years. He enjoyed his puppet and clown ministry; he was “Papa the Clown,” and at 19 he learned to play the drums and enjoyed playing them at church.

Michael is survived by his parents, Danny and Debbie Johnson of Cabool; his brothers, Christopher Johnson of Cabool and Nathaniel Johnson and wife Rachel of Jefferson City, Missouri; grandparents Ethmer (Doc) and Phyliss Johnson of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, Earl and Gay Durnell of Cabool, and Jim Bayless and Ailene Wake of Cabool; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends who loved him and will miss him.

Services were at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Cabool First Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Pallbearers were Michael’s 2008 high school football teammates. Interment was in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery in Pomona, Missouri, under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
