Shirley Jean Rodgers

Shirley Jean Rodgers, known to many as “Me-Me”, age 60, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, passed away on June 1, 2012 at home with her family and friends by her side.

She was born on April 25, 1952 in Rutledge, Missouri, to Gerald and Julia (McAllister) Stillwell.

Shirley grew up in Douglas County and attended Cabool Schools. She was united in marriage to Charles Gene Rodgers on June 3, 1971 in Pleasant Home Church in Douglas County. One daughter, Michelle Lynn, was born to this union in 1972. Shirley resided in the Douglas and Wright county areas throughout her life.

Cooking for her family and doing for others is what Shirley enjoyed most, along with “going west” with her friends, and fishing at Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. She enjoyed sewing and embroidering T-shirts, quilts, tea towels, and practically anything she could dream up. At any given time, she would be working on something special for someone. She often said, “We should not wait for a need to help others to present itself, but diligently seek for an opportunity.”

The last few years of her life, Shirley was unable to work outside the home. Earlier years were filled with many endeavors, from country store owner, Cabool Schools bus driver, OATS bus driver, dairy farmer, real estate broker to a title insurance agent.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Charles Gene Rodgers of their home; her daughter, Michelle Lynn Stigall and husband Jeff of Mtn. Grove; three grandchildren, Brittany Faith (Hayes) Barton and husband Brandon, Dakota Stigall and Emma Grace Stigall; one great-granddaughter, Elsie Grace Barton; her parents, Gerald and Julia Stillwell of Mtn. Arrangements were under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mtn. Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to GYNCA (Gyn Cancer Alliance) c/o the funeral home.
