Barbara “Elaine” Zimmerman Leascher was born October 25, 1924 in Hancock, Iowa, to Ezra Zimmerman and Emma Henry Zimmerman. She then moved to Cabool, Missouri, where she graduated at sixteen. She moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for Lerner’s Stores and became an accomplished seamstress.
Elaine was a petite lady but her accomplishments through her life were far from small. Besides raising two children, Elaine ran the JCPenney Catalog Store as well as Confectionary Delights on the square in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She and her husband, Doril, a successful real estate broker, actually ran other businesses in the same location but as times changed they realized that the businesses needed to change as the needs of the community changed. Following her first stroke, Elaine decided to retire and let their son, Jan, run the businesses.
Following another stroke in May 2011 and complications that followed, Elaine, a loving wife, mother, and successful businesswoman, passed away at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, on September 25, 2011. Elaine will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother, older brother Jac, and youngest brother Richard.
Elaine is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Doril Leascher of Mtn. Grove; their daughter, Dorlaine Dunbar and husband Jerry of Taylor, Nebraska; her son, Jan Leascher of Mtn. Grove; their three grandsons, Shane Dunbar and wife Stacey of Taylor, Nebraska, Chad Dunbar and wife Elizabeth of Norwood, Missouri, and Travis Dunbar and wife Eileen of Burwell, Nebraska; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Shayne, Kindra, and Haley Dunbar, daughters of Shane and Stacey Dunbar, and great-grandson Stetson Dunbar, son of Chad Dunbar.
A memorial visitation was held on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home chapel. Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
