Dale Lloyd Sponsler

Dale Lloyd Sponsler was born May 8, 1936 to Earl and Lois (Flowers) Sponsler in Texas County, Missouri, near Bado. Dale passed away January 31, 2012.

He attended Cabool High School where he lettered in sports and drama and served on the student council.

Dale married Ramona Kirkman on June 30, 1955 in Cabool, Missouri. They moved to Marshfield, Missouri, in 1956 when Dale began working for Sho-Me Power. Their first daughter, Robin, was born May 12, 1957, and another daughter, Raven, was born January 18, 1962. In 1970, they built their house on the corner of A & KK where Mona still resides.

Dale worked for Sho-Me Power for 42 years and was supervisor of the right of way and real estate department. He was named IRWA (International Right of Way Association) Man of the Year for Region 3 in 1972. In addition, he served as international utilities chairman for IRWA for many years. Dale had attended Southwest Missouri State, and he and Mona earned their degrees at Drury College. Dale also attended many management seminars for Sho-Me Power.

Dale served as an elder, chairman of the board, Sunday school teacher, and media operator at Marshfield Christian Church. He was a past president and secretary of Marshfield Optimist Club, a past lieutenant governor of Zone 17 of Optimists, and he served on an international committee for Optimists. He also served on the planning and zoning committee for the city of Marshfield. Dale was a member of Lifetime Learners at Drury University and a member of the Audubon Society.

Dale was a quiet, gentle spirit. He and Mona traveled in 30 countries and all 50 states. His hobbies included photography, travel, boating, working with tools, and repairing everything.

Dale’s father was a state representative for Texas County for 16 years. This gave Dale and his family many opportunities to spend time in Jefferson City.

Survivors include his wife, Mona; daughters Robin Hays and husband Mike and Raven Reed and husband Brad; grandchildren Josh and Jay Reed; step-grandchildren Andrea Hilgenberg and husband Justin and Jonathan Hays and wife Courtney; great-grandchild Henry Hilgenberg; sister Earlene Coday; brother-in-law Dan Kirkman and wife Pat; and nieces and nephews Doug Coday and wife Lisa, Debra Cox, Cindy Kirkwood and husband Wally, Debbie Slagle and husband Dale, Patty Coleman and husband Garrett, Mike Kirkman and wife Raetta, and Pam Malone.

Funeral services were Saturday, February 4, 2012, in Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield, with Revs. Brad Reed, Alex Ruth and Don Brown officiating. Burial was in Marshfield Cemetery.
