Elitta January, 73, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, departed this life on September 24, 2011 at her home of more than 30 years.
Elitta, daughter of Elizabeth (Pinter) Mitten and stepdaughter of the late David A. Mitten, was born on August 1, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio. She earned her degree from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, which began her lifelong career in nursing.
In 1959, she was united in marriage to Noah January, and of this union, five children were born. They raised their family in Norwood, Missouri, while their children attended Norwood School. She later moved south of Mtn. Grove and made her home there.
Elitta was a loving and caring daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved spending time with her family and visiting with her friends.
She enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, camping, canoeing and bird watching. She was a wonderful cook and an avid bridge player. Ellita was a loving and compassionate woman who touched countless lives throughout her many years as a hospice nurse. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Elitta is survived by two sons, Luke January of Norwood and Eric January and wife Maria of Huntington Beach, California; three daughters, Carrie January of Springfield, Missouri, Amy Brown and husband William of Mansfield, Missouri, and Julie January-Ring and husband David of Fair Grove, Missouri; her mother, Elizabeth Mitten of Twinsburg, Ohio: three sisters, Holly Mitten of California, Norene Gideon of Florida, and Tabby Ogrizek of Ohio; ten grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Family memorial services were held on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in Cabool Church of the Brethren with Sandy Chapin officiating. Janet Chapin provided the music for the service.
Cremation and arrangements were under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove. No public services are planned.
