Janice May Hicks, daughter of the late Luther and Cleo (Dugger) Moore, was born on June 2, 1953 and entered into Heaven on May 25, 2011.
Janice grew up on her parents’ farm outside of Hartville, Missouri, and attended school in Hartville.
She was united in marriage to Gary Hicks on March 12, 1971. Together they raised their three children.
Janice worked for 22 years at the Brown Shoe factory where she made many friends that she carried with her all of her life. She loved garage sales, going to casinos, and playing bingo, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family who loved her very much.
Janice is survived by her husband, Gary of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; two sons, Tom Smith and wife Glendela of Cabool, Missouri, and Scott Hicks of Seymour, Missouri; one daughter, Amanda (Hicks) Kelley and husband Jacob of Norwood, Missouri; two brothers, Shelby Moore and wife Pat of Norwood, and Terry Moore and wife Linda of Mtn. Grove; two sisters, Kay Sartor of Mtn. Grove and Joyce Edwards and husband Bret of Mtn. Grove; six grandchildren, Brittany Claussen, Tim Smith, Ryan Smith, Shyla Smith, Connor Kelley and Blake Kelley; two great-granddaughters, Adilee and Rylee Smith; and one great-grandson on the way.
In February 2011 Janice was saved in a remarkable testimony while in the hospital. After days in the ICU, Janice awoke from a dream where she saw Heaven. Her daughter, Amanda, had fallen asleep in her room. She tried to wake her to tell her just how beautiful it was, but her voice was too weak from the ventilator. She decided to go back to sleep to see it again. Once more she dreamed of Heaven and tried to get the attention of her daughter who was exhausted. She again decided that she wanted to see it one more time and closed her eyes. This time she dreamed of hell. She immediately pushed the call button and asked to speak to the chaplain. Her daughter awoke terrified because she heard the chaplain was coming. When the chaplain arrived Janice prayed there in her room with her daughter and the chaplain and accepted Christ as her personal savior.
Janice was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
