Joetta Fay (Pool) Strickland, 80, of Congerville, Illinois, formerly of Cabool, Missouri, went to be with her heavenly Father on April 8, 2011.
Born November 24, 1930 to Elwyn and Ethel (Archer) Pool, she was the youngest of three children. Joetta was born at home in rural Texas County, Missouri, attended by the old country doctor who just happened to be her great-uncle, Doc Coats.
She attended school in Cabool. After graduation in 1949, she met the love of her life, Marion “Bud” Strickland, and on February 16, 1950 they joined in a life together in Harrison, Arkansas. To this union two daughters were born, Barb Strickland and Pam Strickland.
She was of the Nazarene faith and enjoyed attending Faith Community Nazarene when she was in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Joetta was very fond of spending time with her family and friends and especially coming to Mountain Grove to stay with her sister, Lena Duey. She and her sister were the best of friends, and when Joetta was not in Mountain Grove they spoke on the phone every morning. When asked what they had to talk about, she said they never had much to say, but they would talk for about 45 minutes to an hour every day. They just enjoyed spending the time together.
Aunt Jo, as she was lovingly known to her nephews and nieces, never had a cross word to say and always had a smile to brighten your day. She was very fond of her great-nieces and -nephews and loved to spend time with them.
She was preceded in passing by her parents, Elwyn and Ethel Pool, and her husband, Marion “Bud” Strickland.
Joetta is survived by her daughters, Barb Strickland and Pam Strickland of Congerville, Illinois; her sister, Lena Duey and husband Eldon of Mountain Grove; a brother, Gene Pool of Mountain Grove; five nephews, Carl Duey of Oklahoma, George Duey of Mountain Grove, Robert Duey of Peculiar, Missouri, Jim Duey of Kansas City, Missouri, and Randy Pool of Mountain Grove; and five nieces, Gay Hunsaker of Atlanta, Georgia, Fay Gossen of Indiana, Kay Wright of Olathe, Kansas, Anne Fellers of Mountain Grove, and Paula Shaw of Mountain Grove. She also leaves behind 23 great-nephews and –nieces, as well as many friends and family who will miss her dearly.
Memorial services will be held at Faith Community Nazarene Church April 15, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions be made to the church for paving of the parking lot.
