Larna G. Wimberley

Larna G. Wimberley, 91, of Monett, Missouri, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012, at Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett following several months of ill health.

Larna was born December 18, 1920 in Parma, Idaho, the only daughter born to James Edgar Smallwood and Millie (Wood) Smallwood. Larna graduated from Cabool High School in Cabool, Missouri.

On August 7, 1942 in Cabool, Larna Smallwood and Rolland Wimberley were united in marriage. During World War II and shortly after their wedding, Larna worked for Boeing Aircraft while her husband was stationed overseas in the United States Army. She was also employed by Monett Schools as a cook. Larna was a member of Monett First Baptist Church, a member of the W.M.U. and volunteered with the Sunday school nursery and children’s department. She was also a Girl Scout troop leader in Monett for many years.

Larna is survived by one son, Russell Wimberley and wife Tracy of Monett; one daughter, Janet Pruett and husband Mike of Pflugerville, Texas; one brother, Hurshel Smallwood and wife Rena of Cabool; eight grandchildren, Angela, Greg, Brian, Miranda, Nicholas, Kevin, Kelley and John; five great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Rolland; and three brothers, James Edgar “Jr.”, Falus and J.H Smallwood.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 2581 Highway 37, Monett. Dr. Bill Cox will officiate. Interment will follow at Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the church.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Wimberley can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
