Ruth Erma Dean Baker, 58, daughter of Robert and Anita Conaway, was born April 7, 1953 in Salem, Missouri. She died at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, on February 7, 2012.
Ruth was a sister to Virginia Skaggs, Joann Conaway, Bonnie Warren, Ervin Conaway, Eck Conaway, Harv Conaway, Bob Conaway, Hollie Conaway and Pearl Martin.
She was married to Doyle Lay and they had five children: Doyle Lay, Jr., Shoanna, Carolyn, Teressa and Robert. She married Bobby Baker and they had three children: Christopher, Christina and Stephanie.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Doyle Lay, Jr.; five brothers, Bob, Eck, Hollie, Harv and Ervin Conaway; and a sister, Pearl Martin.
She is survived by seven children, Shoanna Neal, Carolyn Smith, Teressa Brink, Robert Lay, Christopher Baker, Christina Baker and Stephanie Baker; two stepchildren, Bobby Baker, Jr. and Melissa Stark; three sisters, Virginia Skaggs, Joann Conaway and Bonnie Warren; 22 grandchildren, Anthony and Brent Strange, Dallas, Savannah and Noelle Neal, Dylan, Sadie and Jonathan Smith, Timothy Neal, Hannah Brink, Emily Roberts, Steven and Jayden Shriver, Seth, Jordan and Jada Lay, Kaidence Lewis, Paige and Nikki Stark, and Andrew, Brittany and Sarah Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Bradyn Baker and Ryan Cross.
Ruth enjoyed her family, her children and her grandbabies. A smile was always on her face. She loved planting flowers, gardening and volunteering at the center in Licking. She loved to help the community and to help whomever she could.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family respectfully requests that donations be made to the United Community Help Center, Licking, in her honor, in lieu of floral arrangements.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday February 8, 2012, at Boone Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Joshua Hartley officiating. Pallbearers were Robert Lay, Christopher Baker, Timothy Neal, Kevin Warren, Bobby Baker, Brent Strange and Matt Britt. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
