Alta Lou Tanis

Alta Lou (Unger) Tanis was born February 18, 1937, at Elk Creek, Missouri. She was called home on November 4, 2010, in Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada.

Alta graduated from Cabool High School and attended Calvary Bible College at Kansas City, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie Unger, and a brother, Bob Unger.

She is survived by her husband, Jess Tanis; children Jon and Tracy Tanis, Jim and Jamie Tanis, Ann and Gord Shiels, Joel and Trudy Tanis; and grandchildren Jessie, Hattie, Kaleena, Sarah, Braden, Joshua, Nathan, Victoria, Amanda and Mitchell. Great-grandchildren are Jael-Rose and Violet. She is further survived by brother John and Yuvonne Unger of Vanzant, Missouri; sister Mary and Aaron Remington of Casper, Wyoming, formerly of Willow Springs, Missouri; sister-in-law Sherri Unger of Mountain Grove, Missouri; and nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends.

Alta and Jess served as missionaries in British Columbia, Canada, with InterAct Missions (formerly Arctic Missions) since 1970. She has written numerous articles that were published and women’s Bible courses that are used by indigenous peoples in Canada and South America. She also wrote and published a biography of a family friend, “God’s Warrior.”

Alta had a great compassion for people and used her love of cooking and music to touch many lives and share her love for God.

A memorial service was held November 13, 2010 at Cariboo Bethel Church in Williams Lake.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Bethel Bible Church in Elk Creek, Missouri.
