Doris Kathleen Blankenship

Doris Kathleen Blankenship, 81, of Ozark, Missouri, formerly of Jefferson City, Missouri, departed this world and entered heaven to live forever with her Lord on March 21, 2010.

Doris was born August 29, 1928 at Solo, Missouri, the daughter of Dillard E. and Edith E. (Ice) Blankenship. She graduated in 1946 from Houston High School and attended Draughon’s Business College in Springfield the following year. In 1953, Doris moved to Jefferson City and worked for the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts for 30 years. She also worked for seven years for the Missouri Veterinary Board. She retired in 1990 after serving the state for 37 years.

Doris was a member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson City. She served her Lord and his church well in Sunday school, training union, WMU, vacation Bible school, church choir, and Friendship Singers. She spent many hours volunteering at the church and in the community with meals-on-wheels, hospital visitation, the Samaritan Center, and as an election judge.

Doris loved her yard, flowers, and gardening. She spent many hours doing embroidery work, crocheting, and quilting. Doris was the historian of the family and a great resource for genealogy of Texas County residents. She was an inspiration to those around her.

Due to health reasons, Doris moved to the Baptist Home in Ozark in 2007.

Doris was preceded in death by her best friend, Wanda Simmons; her parents; and her brother, Junior Blankenship.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Wilda Blankenship of Houston, Missouri; three aunts, Freda Ice of Cabool, Missouri, Esther Ice of Mesa, Arizona, and Eva Walcott of Houston;, many cousins and friends, and special friends, Margaret and Bob Woolley of Ozark.

Funeral services will be at Evans Funeral Home of Houston on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1:00 until service time. Dr. Doyle Sager will officiate. Burial will follow in Ozark Cemetery near Houston.
