Mildred Marie Oxley passed away on Monday evening, August 9, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 93 years, five months and 21 days. She was currently a resident of Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, Missouri.
She was born on February 19, 1917 in Texas County, Missouri, the daughter of the late Sammuel Esty and Edna Odessa (Lunsford) Ellis.
Mildred dearly loved and cherished her family and was a wonderful, much-loved mother, grandmother and friend. Gospel music was her life and she always encouraged and instilled that in her family. She was always active in her church and community until her failing health. She enjoyed reporting the Grandview Terrace news items weekly when she was a resident there.
Mildred was a member of Providence Free Will Baptist Church. She loved serving her Lord and studying His word most of all, reading through her Bible several times. She not only read and studied the Word, she lived her life according to His Word. Her family’s lives are forever changed because of her testimony in giving to the Lord.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny; a daughter, Edna Margaret; an infant daughter, Joyce June; an infant son, Johnny Phillip; three sisters, Thelma, Opal and Leona; and three brothers, Delmar, Elmer and Winford.
She is survived by four daughters, Jeanet Yeargin and husband Buster of Hermitage, Tennesse, Dot Stark and husband Ron of Cabool, Carole Caffey and husband Ron of Springfield, and Donnella Monroe and husband Alan of Meridianville, Alabama; one son, Ronald Oxley of Heber Springs, Arkansas; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Violet Curtis of Michigan, Lucille Halls of Springfield, and Ernestine Reese of Cabool.
She is with Jesus now and will be missed but not forgotten by her family and friends.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010, at Providence Free Will Baptist Church near Cabool with Revs. Russell McDaris and Dennis Adkison officiating. Pallbearers were Rocky Jones, Brett Jones, Kenton Yarnall, Jonah Oxley, Darin Stark and Rory Monroe. Honorary pallbearer was Travis Yarnall. Interment was in Providence Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
