Ricky Gene Martin

Mr. Ricky Gene Martin, 59, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri.

He was born on January 30, 1950 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Gene L. and Carol A. (Snodgrass) Martin.

Rick was raised in Rowland Heights, California, where he and his brother became avid surfers. He lived in several areas during his life, including Colorado, Hawaii and the Valley of Enchantment in California.

He was united in marriage to his first wife, Kathy, and to this union two sons were born, Danny and John. He was united in marriage to Pamela Broughman on January 27, 2001 and was blessed to also welcome two daughters to his life.

In December of 2005 they moved to Missouri where he worked as a carpenter and handyman for Kieth Reese and Edwin Rogers. He had recently gone to work for Willow Care Nursing Home as a maintenance man.

Rick enjoyed attending church, fishing, canoeing and cutting wood, but most of all spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Gene L. Martin; an infant brother; and his grandmother, Gogy.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela of the home; his mother, Carol Martin of Ontario, California; his sons, Danny Martin and wife Jennifer of Winston, Oregon, and John Martin and wife Nikki of Roseburg, Oregon; two daughters, Amber Carruthers and husband Bryon of Mtn. Grove and Courtney Beck and husband Andrew of Beaumont, California; his brother, Reid Martin of Whittier, California; five grandchildren, Jace, Jazmyn, Cody, Marissa and Jessie; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Services were at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Cabool General Baptist Church with Darrel Thornton officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Evans, Ron Boileau, Muggs Ramsey, Kieth Reese, Edwin Rogers, Rick Turkleson and David Berkshire. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Douglas County, Missouri, under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Missouri.
