Velma Marie Rice Holder, born in Fowler, Kansas, November 24, 1906, went to meet her Lord May 2, 2010.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and E. Jay Rice; sisters Mildred Edwards Hildebrandt and Marcella McKinney; and nephew Charles McKinney.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. and Marilyn Edwards of Naples, Florida; her daughter, Alice Foster of O’Fallon, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
In the early thirties, Velma taught grades 1 through 8 in a one-room schoolhouse in Arthur’s Creek, Texas County, Missouri. She was an accomplished musician, playing both the violin and piano.
Velma has been a widow since 1971 and has spent most of her remaining years in O’Fallon, Missouri, area to be near her daughter, Alice Foster. She was an active member of O’Fallon Christian Church and O’Fallon Senior Center Club and their “Kitchen Band.”
Velma has been a resident of St. Peters Manor since January 2004. The family sends thanks to the staff of St. Peters Manor and Heartland Hospice.

Velma donated her body to the University of St. Louis Medical School.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at O’Fallon Christian Church, conducted by Gene Weece, on June 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
