Virginia Holmes Parmenter was born June 25, 1923 near Cabool, Missouri, at the family farm to James Virgil and Irene Sweet Holmes. She departed this life February 8, 2010 at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, after a short battle with cancer at the age of 86 years, seven months and 14 days.
She graduated from Cabool High School in the class of 1941. Virginia played on the Cabool volleyball team from 1938-41 and was also on the tumbling or gymnastics team.
She was united in marriage to J. Lester Curry on October 10, 1942. They lived in the Cabool area where they were blessed with a daughter, Patsy June, born September 23, 1944.
Virginia married Ivan Dean Parmenter in 1954 and they moved to North Pekin, Illinois, where he was employed and she was a housewife. She enjoyed camping, fishing, doing her yard work and decorating her yard for different seasons, especially Christmas. After Dean died in 1992, she moved back to Cabool.
Virginia was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles Philip and James Leland Holmes; and a sister, Marie Johnson and husband Melvin.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Walls and husband Dennis; a grandson, Patrick Ray Walls; sisters-in-law Vivian Alsup and husband Tom, Irene Maness, Lin Parmenter, Joyce Parmenter, Patty Hamilton and husband Bill, and Inez Curry; brother-in-law Bill and Margie Parmenter; nephews, nieces, several cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a member of Cabool Christian Church since she was a child. She also enjoyed the activities of the 60+ers of the church and going out to eat after Sunday worship.
She enjoyed her Christian life and looked forward to going to meet her Lord. She really enjoyed the visits of Brother Bob Martin during her illness.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Cabool Christian Church under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
