Wendall Cleo McCall

Wendall Cleo McCall was born on July 23, 1938 at Bucyrus, Missouri, the son of Oscar Cleo and Della (Wilson) McCall. He was surrounded by family and friends when the Lord took him home on April 14, 2010 at the age of 71.

Wendall met the love of his life, Alice Robertson, at the Cabool Skating Rink in 1956. They were united in marriage on May 29, 1959 and began forging their life together. He began working part-time for the Cabool Post Office as they farmed the land and cattle about five miles north of Cabool.

To this union three children were born: Machelle D. Campbell, Valerie D. Hensley and Douglas W. McCall. He taught his kids about hard work and to give 100% in everything they did. He lived his life as a fine example of what a man, husband and father should be.

Wendall was also a tough man, never wanting to acknowledge or admit his physical limitations that his years had given him. He left this earth still an avid hunter and fisherman. After his retirement as postmaster from the Cabool Post Office he began working with his son-in-law, Kevin Hensley, in the milk hauling business. This rekindled his love for farming, which he and Kevin did together every day. Although he beat cancer three times, in the end it was complications from a farming incident that caused his passing.

He touched many lives in this community through his compassion and concern for others. He used Christ as an example to guide his actions every day. He was a role model for many of the young men who worked around him. Volumes could be written of all the good deeds he did, money he gave and time he donated. He is in Heaven today, not because of his generosity, but because he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Wendall is survived by his wife, Alice; their children, Machelle, Valerie and Doug and their spouses; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Darlene Lawrence, Maxine Hamilton and Bonnie Nichols; and a large extended family that loved him very much.

Services were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Cabool First Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Marti officiating. Pallbearers were Josh Sigman, Adam White, Tyler Hensley, Evan Hensley, Will Collins and Brandon Campbell. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.

The family has requested memorials be given to the Set Free Ministries of Cabool c/o the funeral home.
