Barbara Louise Pilcher, 54, daughter of Lila I. (Bilyeu) and Robert Vern Coen, Sr., was born on December 14, 1954 in Macon County, Illinois, and departed this life on July 15, 2009 at Jackson Madison Community Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. She was diagnosed with cancer in January 2009.
Barbara went to Gravel Point School at Bado, Missouri, for three years until Missouri consolidated rural and town schools. She then attended Cabool Schools and would later receive her GED in 2000. She worked at Kabul Nursing Home for two years and at Casey’s General Store in Cabool for six years as a pizza cook and at Craig Pizza in Camden, Tennessee. Then she became a homemaker in the Cabool/Houston area.
She was united in marriage to Donald Pilcher in 1991, and to this union twins were born. She moved to Tennessee in 1992. She returned to Missouri in 2003 after the passing of her mother to help care for her father. In 2008, she returned to Tennessee to be with her son and grandchildren.
Barbara enjoyed making and cooking meals for her family. She loved to talk, especially about her life with her brothers and sisters as they were growing up in Illinois and Missouri. Barbara enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lila Irene Coen, and one brother, William N. “Bill” Coen.
Barbara is survived by her three children, Brad L. Coen of Big Sandy, Tennessee, and twins Amber D. Pilcher and Bradly R. Pilcher of Big Sandy; three sisters, Linda Skaggs of St. Louis, Missouri, Sandra Noakes and husband Perry of Springfield, Missouri, and Marilyn Ambrose of Concordia, Missouri; four brothers, Robert Coen, Jr. and wife Tina of Nacogdoches, Texas, Arthur Coen and wife Elda of Flat Rock, Michigan, Oran “Tom” Coen and wife Patricia of Cabool, Missouri, and Alfred Coen and wife Patsy of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Barbara’s memorial service was held during the services of her father, Robert V. Coen, Sr., who passed away on July 20. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home’s chapel under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
