Betty Jo Yates Meyer was born on August 20, 1967 at St. Francis Hospital in Mtn. View, Missouri, to Barbara Jean Shelton and Leroy Yates. She passed from this life on August 20, 2008 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Betty grew up in Cabool, Missouri, and attended Cabool Schools. She went to Maness Memorial Baptist Church as a child and later attended Trinity Free Will Baptist Church in Cabool. She had two children, Jamora Leann and Joel Ray.
On November 16, 1991, Betty was united in marriage to her best friend and love of her life, James “Jim” Meyer, at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church. She was great at many things; she was a waitress, an excellent secretary and bookkeeper. She was a talented artist and she volunteered her artistic skills for church play props and school football banners.
A few of her favorite hobbies were crocheting and embroidering things for others, working in her garden and simply being outdoors.
Betty struggled with multiple health issues for several years, but always kept a positive attitude. She was taken home to be with the Lord at 2:00 a.m. on her 41st birthday. Her caregivers told her family members how positive and upbeat she was even though they knew she was struggling.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Yates; her grandparents, Aron and Mattie Shelton, who she lived with as a child; uncles, James Shelton, Tommy Shelton, Clarence Cook and Aron Cook; and her brother-in-law, Guy Meyer.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Meyer; her mother, Barbara Shelton; her children, Jamora Crewse and husband Jeremy and Joel Wells; two grandchildren; her father-in-law, Bob Meyer; her mother-in-law, Joyce Meyer; a brother-in-law, Brett Meyer; her cousin and close friend, Kathy Jean Lay; two aunts, Pat Shelton and Kathy Wells and husband Don; two uncles, Junior Shelton and wife Carolyn and David Shelton; as well as numerous cousins and many friends.
Services were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Trinity Freewill Baptist Church of Cabool with Donnie Wells and Duane Crewse officiating. Pallbearers were Mark Petre, Leon Loman, David Todd, Joey Shelton, C.R. Polston and Randy Jo Garner. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
