Carla Marie Odom was born in Amboy, Illinois, to James Monroe and Emily (Bracker) Shaw on April 4, 1918 and entered into rest on November 13, 2008 in Salem, Missouri, at the age of 90 years, seven months and eight days.
Carla was united in marriage to Ralph Odom on May 5, 1940. They were the parents of three children.
Carla is preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 22, 2001; an infant daughter, Judy Ann Odom; and two brothers, Earl and Bruce Shaw.
Loving survivors include her children, Doris Edington of Houston, Texas, and Sherman Odom and wife Marsha of Salem; eight grandchildren, David Odom of Ozark, Missouri, John Odom of St. Louis, Missouri, Catherine Keefner and husband Erik of Tucson, Arizona, Richard Edington and wife Mary of Georgia, Glen Edington and wife Yvonne of Windsor, England, Beverly Huet of Pinecrest, Texas, Charles Edington and wife Sharon of Roundrock, Texas, and Mary Gardage and husband Andres of Houston, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kelsie, Kameron, Logan, Jordan, Avery, Alexander and Harrison.
Carla was a lifelong member of Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church in Cabool, Missouri. She and Ralph were very active in the church. Carla and Ralph owned and operated a dairy farm for forty years. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those who loved her.
Funeral services were at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Mt. Pisgah Free Will Baptist Church in Cabool with David Carroll officiating. Neil Hamilton read the obituary and led the congregation in a hymn. Music was provided by the Mt. Pisgah Choir, accompanied by Modene Smith as pianist. Interment was in Cabool City Cemetery, with all arrangements under the direction of Dent County Memorial Chapel, Salem.
