Mrs. Doris Elaine Thomas, 67, of Elk Creek, Missouri, passed away Monday, August 11, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
She was born on October 3, 1940 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of the late Gale and Gladys (Peterson) Williams.
Doris graduated from Jefferson High in Council Bluffs, Iowa, with the class of 1958.
On December 5, 1958 she was united in marriage to Arthur Thomas in Santa Anna, California. To this union three children were born, Gale, Kimberly and Daniel. The family lived in many different areas of Missouri and California until settling in Elk Creek in 1991.
Doris enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting and working crossword puzzles. She also had an extensive doll collection. She had been attending Elk Creek Baptist Church for several months prior to her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, John Blair, Jr.
Doris is survived by her husband, Arthur of the home; her children, Gale Thomas and wife Cindy of Chicago, Illinois, Kimberly Blair and husband John of Elk Creek, and Daniel Thomas and wife Beth of Chicago, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Michael Thomas, Jackie Echtenacher and husband Ron, Christina Thomas, Bobby Blair, Dustin Blair and wife Jess, Britney Thomas and Daniel Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Hope and Sabrina Blair and Abby and RJ Echtenacher; two sisters, Sharon Volner and Gail Smith; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008, in Elk Creek Baptist Church with Josh Miller officiating. Pallbearers were John Blair, Dustin Blair, Bobby Blair, Larry Thomas, Terry Thomas and Bruce Siders. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Missouri.
