Dorothy Elita (Bertrand) Walters, 85, of Cabool, Missouri, and formerly a 32-year resident of Warrensburg, New York, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2008.
She was born on January 16, 1923 in Lynn, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Philibert and Clarilda Bertrand.
On September 29, 1940 she was united in marriage to Robert Drummond Walters.
Dorothy was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 45 years. She was willing to share her faith to all who would listen. She was a lady of great courage and moral convictions, always full of optimism and had a marvelous sense of humor. She loved children and was a devoted wife and mother. Her favorite hobbies were crossword puzzles, reading and crocheting. She loved life, the outdoors, her plants and gardening but her lifelong battle with severe asthma limited much of the activities she enjoyed. She was loved by all who knew her for her patience, kindness, wit and tact. She was greatly loved by her family and will be deeply missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, on April 27, 1978; and a sister.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia G. Lyon of Paradise, California, and Pamela D. McMann of Cabool; her son, Robert J. Walters of Warrensburg, New York; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, who resides in Brooklyn, New York; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Dorothy Walters, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and spiritual sister, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cabool with Ron McGlaughlin officiating. Memorial services will also be held in Warrensburg, New York, at a later date.
