Earl L. Sand

Earl L. Sand, 79, of Cabool, Missouri, departed this life on May 26, 2009 at Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, Missouri.

He was born on October 28, 1929 in Crawford County, Ohio, the son of Milton and Garnet (Smith) Sand.

Earl grew up in Crawford County and graduated from Holmes-Liberty School. On May 6, 1950 he was united in marriage to Phyllis McFarland in Oceola, Ohio. He worked as a supervisor for 40 years at Swan Rubber Hose Company and retired in 1989 to further enjoy life. He loved fishing at Lake Erie in his Lyman boat, “The Sand Box.” He also enjoyed gardening, camping, hunting and golf. He shared all these skills with his five children, especially the use of a “magic stick” when hunting for mushrooms. Earl was truly a family man and had strong traditions, moral and family values, which he passed on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Earl and Phyllis moved to Cabool in 1992. He enjoyed his days golfing, trying to garden in Missouri rocks and helping out at his daughter Becky’s greenhouse.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margaret Feichtner and Karen Bruce; two brothers, John and Wilbur Sand; and a daughter-in-law, Palistine Sand.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis of Cabool; his children, Rebecca and Gordon Scott of Cabool, Michael Sand of Marion, Ohio, Cynthia and Benny Lynn, Jr. of Bucyrus, Ohio, Eric and Teresa Sand of Springfield, Missouri, and Emily Frank of Rogers, Arkansas; brothers and sisters Robert, Glen, Richard and Margery of Ohio and Marilyn of Michigan; grandchildren Wesley and Adam Scott of Cabool, Jason Lynn, Justin Lynn and Jamie Laughbaum of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Elizabeth McGuire, Berlin Stephens and Edward Stephens of Marion, Ohio; and precious great-grandchildren, Carrie, James, Kristen, Jordyne and Bethany Scott of Missouri and Sheldon, Haley, Timmy and Bea of Ohio.

Graveside services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at Cabool Cemetery with Bro. Bob Marti officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
