Esther Katheryn Hager, daughter of the late Joseph and Gerda (Weber) Miller, was born on September 23, 1937 in Pioche, Nevada, and departed this life on June 14, 2009 in Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center in Ava, Missouri. She was 71 years of age.
She grew up and attended school in California and was united in marriage to Edward Hager. They made their home in California for many years and had recently moved to Missouri to live in Douglas County in the Vanzant community. Mr. Hager passed away on May 18, 2009.
Esther was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mtn. Grove, where she was involved in the ministry of helping families.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening. She also researched genealogy.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by five sons, Doyle Smith of Vanzant, Dirk Smith of Fresno, California, Dean Smith of Marion, Arkansas, Darrold Baxter of Aurora, Missouri, and Carl Hager of Fresno; three daughters, Debbie DeLa Torre of Stockton, California, Dorothy Tyree of Amherst, Virginia, and Diane Miller of Fresno; two brothers, Edward Miller of Drury, Missouri, and James Miller of Redding, California; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mtn. Grove under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fresno Memorial Gardens in California.
