Herschel Eugene Heaslet, son of the late James Franklin and Golda (Hodo) Heaslet, was born on April 5, 1931 in Lubbock, Texas, and departed this life on December 10, 2009 at his home in Elk Creek, Missouri, after a long illness at the age of 78 years, eight months and five days.
At the time of his passing he was a member of Maness Memorial Baptist Church in Cabool, Missouri.
On March 11, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Rushing in Grover City, California, and to this union two children were born. Herschel and Mary vacationed a lot over the years. He was a sole proprietor of Big H Distribution Auto in Turlock, California. They raised their family in Turlock and ran a dairy with his son for many years. In 1991 they moved to their home at Elk Creek, where he enjoyed working cattle, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Herschel was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Shera Olson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of the home; son Gary E. Heaslet and his wife, Alice, of Elk Creek; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack Heaslet and wife Kelsie of Turlock, California; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, loving friends and neighbors. Herschel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and neighbor. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009, at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry Brown officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Senf, Bob Ferree, Randall Ward, Jason Blackwelder, Glen Chowning and Jared Blackwelder. Honorary pallbearer was Justin Heaslet. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
