Iona Iola Hurley, 87, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.
She was born on May 16, 1921 near Bucyrus, Missouri, the daughter of Alex and Vivian (Durnell) Britzman.
She was raised in the White Rock community and was very proud of her roots in the German community. She attended and graduated from Houston High School.
Iona was united in marriage to Roscoe Hurley on January 15, 1941 and to this union two children were born, Alan and Joyce. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Cabool Christian Church. She was a very sincere and dedicated friend to many; she especially loved to bake pies for her family, church and friends.
Iona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Roscoe, on March 9, 2001; her son, Alan Hurley; three brothers, Amos, Ernest and Olin; and a sister, Eileen.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce A. Brooks; her granddaughter, Julie L. Brooks; three step-grandsons, Jeff, Johnny and Greg Brooks; a former son-in-law, John Brooks; her sister, Ruby; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Britzman; as well as a host of other relatives and friends that will dearly miss her.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008, at Cabool Christian Church with Bro. Bob Martin officiating. Pallbearers were Danny Maness, Harold Bennett, Larry Taff, Everett Beller, Lloyd Taff and Jack Upton. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
