Ira Gilbert Daugherty departed this life on Monday, August 25, 2008, at 12:55 a.m. at Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, Missouri. He was 83 years, 7 months and 14 days of age.
He was born on January 11, 1925 in Clear Springs, Missouri, the son of Gilbert and Susan (Godsey) Daugherty. He attended Oak Ridge Country Grade School and Willow Springs High School.
Ira was united in marriage to Ellen Magdelene Grogan on April 15, 1946 in Willow Springs, and to this union three children were born, Charles, Gerald and Linda.
Bro. Ira’s occupations consisted of farming, logging, factory work and obeying God’s call to the ministry. Bro. Daugherty was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost in 1951 when he was 26. Shortly thereafter, God called him to preach. He pastured numerous churches in the area, held many street corner meetings and revivals, and spread God’s love and word to the very end of his life.
Besides being with the love of his life, Ellen, and his children and grandchildren, Bro. Ira enjoyed playing the harmonica, mandolin or guitar with Sister Ellen on the piano or her guitar. He loved to fish, hunt and garden, visiting the sick and reading the Bible and helping people in any way he could. The latter part of his life he and Ellen loved to listen to gospel singing and preaching on the radio as well as reading the Bible together.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen of Willow Springs; two sons, Charles W. Daugherty and wife Linda of Willow Springs and Gerald Daugherty and wife Rosie of Thomasville, Missouri; a daughter, Linda Lovan of Dora, Missouri; seven grandchildren, John “Rob” Daugherty and wife Laura of Rogersville, Missouri, LeAnn (Daugherty) Collins and husband Shannon of Willow Springs, Cheryl (Daugherty) Judd and husband Randy of Rover, Missouri, Chad Daugherty of Thomasville, Jennifer (Daugherty) Carnefix and husband Darren of Willow Springs, Charolette (Carr) Horn and spouse Bobby of Houston, Missouri, and Melissa (Brixey) Lawson and spouse Steven of Pomona, Missouri; four stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Root and Kira Owens of Springfield, Missouri, Ryan Freeman of Willow Springs and Daniel Simpson and wife Keena of West Plains, Missouri; ten great grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; five step great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nephews, nieces and their families and numerous friends.
Services were at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home with Sister Beth Bradford, Rev. Emmett Bradford, Rev. Charles Barnett and Bro. Leland Earls officiating. Music selections were provided by pianist Sister Angie Earls and vocalists Sister Sheryl Webb, Bro. Leland Earls, Bro. Floyd Earls and Bro. Leowen Earls. Pallbearers were Chad Daugherty, Francis Carr, Darren Carnefix, Richard Grogan, Randy Judd and Shannon Collins. Interment was in Moffitt Cemetery near Willow Springs under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool, Missouri.
