Laveta Jane Kelley, 76, daughter of Luther Ingle and Tennie Jane Ice Aldridge, was born November 18, 1931 around the Tyrone, Missouri, area. She died September 25, 2008 at her home in Huggins, Missouri.
She married Earl Curtis, Jr., and to this union two children were born, Bruce and Brenda. She later married Glenn Weldon Kelley on January 1, 1966, and to this union two children were born, Bryan and Bonnie.
Laveta was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Martha Sue Aldridge and Juanita Geisler; and one brother, Herman Aldridge.
She held a number of jobs over the years, the latest being at Huggins Post Office, where she served as officer in charge and in 1981 she took over as postmaster. She retired from the post office in 1999.
Laveta is survived by her husband, Glenn Kelley of the home; two sons, Bruce Curtis of Houston, Missouri, and Bryan Kelley and wife Loretta of Huggins; two daughters; Brenda (Curtis) Nease and husband Earl of Spartenburg, South Carolina, and Bonnie (Kelley) Stallcup and husband Mark of Upton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Angela Fiester, Tony Claar, Brittany Stallcup, Corey Stallcup, Kayla Kelley and Ethan Kelley; four great-grandchildren, Spencer, Wesley and Ashlan Fiester, and Alyssa Claar; one brother, Thurman Aldridge, and a sister, Oneta Holloway, both of Springfield, Missouri; along with a host of nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2008, in Fairview Penecostal Holiness Church with Rev. John Emery officiating. Music selections were “Precious Memories” and “Whispering Hope,” sung by David and Darlene Gourley. Burial was in Hickory Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tony Claar, Corey Stallcup, Spencer Fiester, Wesley Fiester, Gary Aldridge and Jimmy Kissock. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
