Mary Edith Carter Young, 84, daughter of Grover Cleveland and Mary Ethel (Hill) Carter, was born February 1, 1925 in the home at Theron, Missouri. She passed away April 3, 2009 at Houston House Nursing Home in Houston, Missouri.
She lived in Texas County her entire life, except for one year in Kansas City, Missouri, sometime in the 1940s.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Carl Carter of Emmett, Idaho; her husband Earn Young, Fairview, Missouri; and an infant daughter, Donna.
She is survived by one brother, Raymond Carter of Huntington, Oregon; one sister, Mildred Carter of Cabool, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Goldie of Idaho; one daughter, Lisa Renfro of Fairview, Missouri; four grandsons, Ryan, Brent and family, Doug and family, and Jared and family; three great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Edith was saved at an early age, she and her husband, Earn, attended Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church faithfully, where she remained active quilting in the women’s auxiliary as long as her health permitted.
She was also a member of the Know Your Neighbor Club and fellowshipped with them frequently.
Services were Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church. Rev. John Emery officiated with burial in Hickory Ridge Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church or Hickory Ridge Cemetery.
