Matilda June Winters, 89, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009, at Kabul Nursing Home.
She was born on June 8, 1919 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Manley D. and Estella M. (Vallance) Winters. June was from a family of six girls and four boys.
June was united in marriage to Frank Leslie Vickerman on March 29, 1935 in Flint, Michigan, and to this union five sons were born. Four of her sons passed away shortly after birth.
She went back to school in her late 40’s and received her GED; she then went on to get her LPN license at about age 52. She has lived in Michigan, Georgia, Nevada, Florida and Missouri.
She moved to Cabool in 1994 and lived at Pineview Heights until September 2006 when she moved to Kabul Nursing Home after a stroke.
June was preceded in death by her parents and four sons.
She is survived by her son, Dr. David L. Vickerman, chiropractic physician, and his wife, Carol, of Cabool; and two granddaughters, Thanna and husband Joel Stoffer of Los Angeles, California, and Danel and husband Matt Clements of Oceanside, California.
A memorial service was held on Friday, June 19, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Vickerman Farm, where her ashes will be scattered in the pine grove as she had requested.
