Sammie L. Mosley Lockhart, 90, of Dayton, Texas, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at her daughter’s residence in Houston, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2009, at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church in Kenefick, Texas, with graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas. Local arrangements are under the direction of Evans Funeral Home in Houston.
Sammie was born June 25, 1919 in Beaverton, Alabama, to Samuel M. and Mary Ella Cole Mosley. A former resident of Alvin, Texas, she had resided in the Dayton area for the past five years. She was a graduate of the Sulligent High School, a former textile worker and floral shop owner, and a member of Alvin Missionary Baptist Church, garden club and women’s quilting clubs of Alvin. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, and gardening.
Mrs. Lockhart was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Howard S. Lockhart; a granddaughter, Mary C. Fowler; two sisters, Mae Sullivan and Jessie Taylor; and five brothers, Bruce, Sidney, Grady, Willie B., and Dan Mosley.
She is survived by her daughters, Marcella Neugebauer of Houston, Missouri, Jackie Silva and husband Manuel of Manville, Texas, and Carolyn McDaniel and husband Jerry of Dayton, Texas; a sister, Janie Hill of Birmingham, Alabama; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
