Shirley Ann Wade passed from this world on November 25, 2008 at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri, at the age of 81.
She was born on April 27, 1927, the daughter of Ralph and Etta Pearl (Cole) Heathman of Phillipsburg, Kansas.
Shirley Ann Heathman was the youngest of three children. She moved with her family to Cabool, Missouri, during her senior year of high school where she fell in love with Marlin J. Wade. Their courtship was tempered by Marlin’s enlistment in World War II but they were finally wed on August 9, 1946. Their union was blessed with seven children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren to date.
Marlin and Shirley were very proud of the farm just north of Cabool where they raised their family. Shirley also worked for 13 years as a cook at Kabul Nursing Home. Cooking was not only her profession, but cooking for her large family was a central theme to her life. The focal point of family gatherings usually included roast beef with tomato gravy and homemade rolls and angel food cake.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Reid; her sister, Wanda; and her husband, Marlin.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November, 29, 2008, in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Care in care of the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
