Shirley May Upshaw, 62, of Willow Springs, Missouri, departed this world on October 4, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Mtn. View, Missouri, after a long, hard battle with cancer.
She was born on July 1, 1947 in Wright County, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas A. and Fern (Hall) Baney.
Shirley grew up in Buffalo, Iowa. She had four brothers, Tommy, Nova, Ray and J.D. Baney, and one sister, Connie Childers.
She worked as a restaurant cook for many years. She enjoyed tending to her flower beds, watching hummingbirds, playing cards and collecting angel figurines. She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. Her door was always open to anyone in need.
Shirley moved to Missouri where she resided for 43 years. She had five daughters, Madonna Goodwin, Glenda Jones, Ramona Christner, Tina Wimberley and Teresa Davis; four sons, Roy Lee Lavasseur, Chris Wimberley, Jerry Haddican and Bruce Wimberley; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one-great grandchild on the way.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the funeral home in Cabool, Missouri. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2009, at Mt. Ararat Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
