Mrs. Tena Jeanne (Mead) Harvey, 50, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 9, 2009. Tena was a faithful servant of her Heavenly Father for more than 25 years. She had rededicated her life to the Lord on September 1, 2002, being baptized by Rev. William E. Kelly.
Tena was born on May 30, 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harold and Shirley (McGowen) Mead. Tena spent eight years of her life in Kansas City, Missouri, until her family moved to Mtn. Grove in 1967. Her teenage years held some of her fondest memories: excelling in band, activities, making lifelong friends and meeting the loves of her life.
Tena graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1977 and went to nursing school and worked as a nurse for most of her adult life.
She was united in marriage to Daniel Lewis Friend in 1977, and to this union two sons were born.
Tena celebrated life to its fullest, devoting her life as a mother to her children. She loved to paint, decorate and visit with friends and family. She also loved speaking to people about the Lord; it was a pure pleasure for her.
In 1997 she was united in marriage to Daniel R. Harvey. They moved to Kansas City where they spent most of their time remodeling their home, gardening, planting and arranging flowers and drinking coffee together on their porch while playing fetch with their two dogs. They celebrated their twelve-year anniversary together on August 30, 2009.
Tena was preceded in death by her sister, Debbie Dee (Mead) Hurst, and her brother, Harold Wayne (Sonny) Mead, Jr.
She leaves behind her husband, Daniel R. Harvey; her parents, Harold Wayne and Shirley (McGowen) Mead; her grandmothers, Florence Elizabeth McGowen and Velma Mead; her sons, M. Daniel Friend and wife Misty and J. Michael Friend and wife Sara; a sister, Tammy (Mead) Splawn; two grandchildren, Corbin and Parker Friend; as well as many nieces, nephews and close special friends.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2009, at Providence Church near Cabool, Missouri, with Revs. Bill Morris and Bill Kelly officiating. Interment was in Providence Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
