Ruby (Noel) Graven

Ruby (Noel) Graven, 83, of Cabool, Missouri, departed this life on May 17, 2014 at 2:49 p.m. to join her Heavenly Father, in her family home surrounded by loved ones after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ruby was born April 5, 1931 to James and Martha (Hartley) Noel in Bado, Missouri. She was one of ten children, three of whom died at early ages. Ruby grew up in the Bado community and attended a one-room school house. The family moved to Cabool where she attended Cabool High School with the class of 1949.

On June 8, 1949 Ruby was united in marriage to Gene Graven. They lived and worked in the Cabool area all their lives. To this union four children were born, Diana, Debra, Paula and Danny.
Ruby accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized into Christ on April 30, 1961 at Cabool Christian Church where she has remained a faithful member. God and her church family have always played a major role in her life. She was always willing to help with church functions and programs. She especially liked helping with the after-school program the church used to have. Her faithful walk with God has always been an inspiration to her family.

Ruby always put others first. It was important to her to make sure others were taken care of and happy. She loved preparing a traditional Sunday meal where having 20 or more family members present wasn’t uncommon. When her health began to fail, the tradition was continued by her daughter Debra.

Ruby loved the babies and little ones. She was always thrilled to hear there was another baby on the way; she was overjoyed to hear a great-great-granddaughter would be arriving in August or September. One of the things she loved most was playing with the little ones and rocking the babies.

Some activities Ruby enjoyed were gardening, canning, cooking, aerobics at the high-rise, and her favorite pastime was reading her Bible and walking.

Ruby is survived by daughters Debra Graven Osborn and Paula Graven Moore and husband Terry from Cabool; son Danny Graven of West Plains; grandchildren Michael Osborn and wife Tina, Jonnathan Graven, Jennifer Graven Sterner and husband Chris, James Moore, Terry G. Moore and wife Katie, Jason Graven and wife Tedra, and Jared Graven; great-grandchildren Ashley Hensley and husband Trevor, Todd Wood, Halyn, Logan, Ashlin, and Kinslea Sterner, Caleb and Abigail Graven, Tatum Watson, and Diana Moore; great-great-grandson Chase Hensley; great-great-granddaughter Bayley Ray Hensley, arriving in August; her brothers, James (Bob) Noel of Carrier, Mississippi, and Tommy Noel of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, Ruth Wheeler, and special family members Linda Risner and Jared Chronister.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Gene Graven; her daughter, Diana; her grandson, William “Billy” Moore; four brothers and three sisters.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Cabool Christian Church with Jeff Randleman officiating. Pallbearers were Jason Graven, Michael Osborn, James Moore, Terry Moore, Chris Sterner and Todd Wood. Honorary pallbearers were Trevor Hensley and Jared Chronister. Interment was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
