Chelmer Gaylord Ireland, 78, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon.
He was born April 22, 1934, in Summersville, Missouri, the son of the late Hardy and Mattie (Johnson) Ireland.
Chelmer moved to Aurora from Ava in 1975, residing in Aurora his remaining years, excluding a brief time in Greenfield. He was a 1952 graduate of Cabool High School in Cabool, Missouri, and a U.S. Army veteran. Chelmer retired from Carnation Milk Company, later known as Mid Am, where he worked as a lab technician. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenfield.
On December 28, 1956, he married Janice Stott in Ava, Missouri. She preceded him in death August 21, 1998.
On April 7, 2000, he married Laura Dowler in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his dear wife, Laura of the home; one daughter, Teresa (Roger) Thurman of Aurora; four sons, Kevin Rook of Lamar, Missouri, Keith (Charlie) Rook of Neosho, Missouri, Kolby (Jen) Rook of Roosevelt, Utah, and Kanin (Lori) Rook of Aurora; 14 grandchildren, Tiffany and Kendall Thurman, Tiffany (Nate) George, Kaleb (Hailey) Rook, Rhett, Rheed, Kash, Karter, Ali, Kai, Kenyon, Audrey, Keston and Claira Rook; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Gunner; one sister, Naomi (George) Ice of Houston, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Janice, his brother Chloe also preceded him in death.
A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home with burial at Sparta Cemetery in Sparta, Missouri.
Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
