Denney Brown, age 81, son of Doyle Edwin and Ruby Ellen (Denney) Brown, was born February 12, 1929 in Bucyrus, Missouri. He passed away October 1, 2010 at Rolla Manor Care Center, Rolla, Missouri.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joann.
Denney grew up in the Bucyrus area and attended grade school at Piney Ridge. He graduated Houston High School in 1948.
He married Patricia Crow April 13, 1952 in Reno, Nevada, and to this union six children were born.
Denney entered the U.S. Navy on May 20, 1948 and served his country as a senior chief communications technician and was transferred from active duty to the Fleet Reserve of the United States Navy on the 21st day of May, 1968 after 20 years of service.
After retiring from the Navy he sold insurance throughout the surrounding communities in Texas and Wright counties. He was an agent for Farm Bureau in Houston, Missouri, and then for Cameron Mutual in Cabool, Missouri. Denney later sold farm implement equipment at his farm in Solo, Missouri.
Denney is survived by two sons, Steven W. Brown of Oakland, California, and Edwin C. Brown and wife Elaine of Vallejo, California; four daughters, Terry E. Mings of Norfolk, Virginia, Denise F. Davis and husband Lynn of Vienna, Misouri, Cindy Williams and husband Michael of Lynchburg, Missouri, and Stacy L. Blakley and husband Steve of Rolla; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Norman Brown of Rolla.
Denney loved visiting with family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday October 4, 2010, at Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Pallbearers were Steven Mings, Brandon Williams, Jeremy Williams, Travis Parish, Kenneth Mings and Nick Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Swanson and Gary Parish. Full military honors were held at Pine Lawn Cemetery Pavilion. His body will be cremated after services and inurned in Pine Lawn Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
