Edward Paul Carty

Edward Paul Carty, son of the late Rev. J.J. and Martha (Coats) Carty, was born on October 18, 1927 in Simmons, Missouri, in Texas County, and departed this life on Sunday, February 9, 2014, in Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a long illness. He was 86 years of age.

Paul grew up in the Simmons community and attended school in Cabool and Houston, Missouri. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Wilma Sympson on August 26, 1952 in Marshalltown, Iowa. One daughter, Paula, was born to this union. They made their home in the Mtn. Grove area for many years.

Paul was employed by the Fruit Experiment Station in Mtn. Grove, working in the maintenance department for several years. He later retired from the foundry at Mans Steel in Mansfield, Missouri.

Paul enjoyed playing pool, shuffleboard, and singing karaoke. He also liked to do small engine repair work in his shop.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 30, and the Masonic Lodge, all of Mtn. Grove.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Scott, with whom he shared a special bond.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie Carty, Jimmy Carty, and Earl Carty, and a sister, Blanche Norfalise.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Carty of their home; his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Eddy Adams of West Plains, Missouri; one grandson, Scott Carty; and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Craig-Hurtt Chapel, Mtn. Grove. No funeral services are planned. Mr. Carty will be cremated and burial will be at a later date in Hillcrest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warriors Project c/o the funeral home.
