Emmett Wright Davis, 88, of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 26, 2010.
Mr. Davis was born in Cabool, Missouri, in 1922, the youngest of six children.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps in New Guinea, 1943-44. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State in 1947, having served as student council president and awarded State Collegiate Speech Champion that same year. He received a master’s degree from Northwestern University and served as a school principal at Washington and John Clark elementary schools in Waukegan.
He was an active member of Waukegan City Club and an avid golfer and bridge player. Following retirement he served on the Waukegan School Board and the Salvation Army Board, and worked as a property manager and appraiser, and a numismatist.
Mr. Davis was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church choir.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Blair, Iona Meeker, and Grant, Charles and Mildred Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Millicent (nee Sadleir); two children, Bridget and Chris Busck of Sydney, Australia, and Dr. Brian and Lori Davis of Rochester, Minnesota; and five grandchildren, Briana, Erik, Shannon, Swynn and Kirsten.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waukegan. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Emmett Davis’ memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 431 S. Genesee St., Waukegan, IL 60085.
