Former Mtn. Grove resident Jerry Lee Coday, 67, died October 13, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Missouri, from complications of liver disease.
Jerry was born June 8, 1943, in Mansfield, Missouri, to the late Vernes and Luree (Dixon) Coday.
He graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1961 and joined the United States Marine Corps.
He was united in marriage to V. Earlene Sponsler on July 4, 1964. In 1975, Jerry and Earlene moved to Mtn. Grove, Missouri, where they owned and operated the Flower Basket for six years. He continued to work in the floral industry as a salesman for wholesale florist Buffalo Import for 24 years until his retirement.
Together for 28 years, Jerry and Earlene raised a son and a daughter, Doug and Debra. After the marriage ended in divorce, Jerry continued to live in Mtn. Grove until moving to Kansas City in 2007.
He was an avid bowler, bowling a 300 game on April 26, 1990 and a 299 game on August 28, 1992. Jerry was also honored by the American Bowling Congress in 2002 for participating in 25 national tournaments, continuing to enjoy bowling until his eyesight deteriorated.
Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Lisa Coday; a daughter, Debra Cox; three grandchildren, Kayla Cox, Clay Cox, and William Coday; his stepmother, Vineta McKinley; a sister, Jane Carder; a niece, Sarah Carder; and many friends.
Memorial services were Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Donnie Wells officiated. Special songs were “No Tears in Heaven,” “Sheltered in the Arms of God,” and “I’m Ready to Go” all provided by Faithful Quartet. Full Military Honors were given at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 30 Funeral Honors Team with Jared Moore serving as bugler. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
