Leonard Oscar Redd, son of the late Oscar and Ruth (Barrows) Redd, was born October 4, 1927 in Wilmington, California, and departed this life February 11, 2011 in Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He had attained the age of 83 years, four months and seven days.
Mr. Redd had resided in Fremont, Missouri, since moving here in 1985 from Cabool, Missouri. He was also formerly of Grand Junction, Colorado. He retired from the City of Cabool as a parks department worker and was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, outdoors activities and enjoyed watching westerns on television.
On May 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Frances Loretta Thompson. To this union five children were born.
Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Cunningham of Montrose, California, Cindy Redd of Fremont, Missouri, Jody Sizemore of La Junta, Colorado, and Lynn Redd of Fremont; one daughter-in-law, Judy Collins of West Plains, Missouri; two brothers, Wendell Redd of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Delbert Redd of Oroville, California; two sisters, Alice Sawyer of Hartford, North Carolina, and Barbara Webb of Thayer, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Misti Collins, Josh, Collins, Justin Ashcraft, Jesse Ashcraft, Michael Fry, Brandon Fry, Angela Willhite and Brian Fry and Declan Moore; 11 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Dale Redd, and two brothers, Robert Redd and Billy Redd.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, in McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren, Missouri, with Rev. John Gipson officiating. Music will include “Arms of an Angel” and “In the Garden.”
