Kenneth grew up and attended school in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on March 16, 1970. While serving his country, Kenneth received several awards: the Sharpshooter M-14 Badge, VSM, Air Medal, ND SM, 2 O/S Bars, RVNCM W/60 DEV, and a Bronze Star.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Diana Royal on December 18, 1970 in Cabool, Missouri. They raised four children. They had made their home on Wall Road near Mtn. Grove for a short time.
Kenneth was a well driller for many years, working in Wright, Texas and surrounding counties.
He was a longtime member of VFW Post 3770 in Mtn. Grove and enjoyed working on Thursday evenings, which are bingo nights.
Kenneth was a very honest man who made his family very proud. He was a friend to all and he was also known for being set in his ways. He enjoyed collecting quarters, knives, and guns for many years.
Kenneth enjoyed being outdoors, especially when hunting, camping, fishing, or just taking in his
surroundings. He loved getting together with his sons, brothers, and buddies just visiting or doing some trading. He loved spending time with his family and friends and playing cards. He had a special dog named Nicknack that was a joy to him.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His greatest passion was spending time with his grandkids whenever he could. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Freeman; three sisters, Pauline Campbell, Berniece Smith and Vivian Sanders; and a grandson, Tyler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana Freeman of their home; two sons, Kevin Freeman and Ronnie Freeman and wife Alisa; two daughters, Kathy Akers and husband Gary, and Debbie Parsons and husband Kelly, all of Mtn. Grove; two brothers, Everett Freeman of Licking, Missouri, and Arnold Freeman of Mtn. Grove; nine grandchildren, Missy, Nate, Eric, Jessie, Amber, Austin, Brandon, Ethan and Hunter; two great-grandchildren, Weston and Brendon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in Craig-Hurtt Chapel with Rev. Junior Hutsell officiating. Song selections were “I Can Only Imagine,” “Daddy’s Hands,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” Pallbearers were VFW Post 3770 members Joe Kelley, Pete Proctor, Archie Daily, Ed Hawley, Ruth Vaughn and Terry Kennedy. Full military honors were provided by American Legion Post 30, Army Burial Team, along with Jared Moore serving as bugler, at the cemetery. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery near the Douglas/Texas County line, south of Mtn. Grove, under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
