Marvin Clyde Melton, 80, died August 19, 2011 in High Ridge, Missouri.
Marvin was born December 13, 1930 in Douglas County, Missouri, but was raised in Texas County where he attended Stubbs Grade School and was a graduate of Mtn. Grove High School, Class of 1949.
In January 1951, along with his brother, Bob, he joined the Navy. They took basic training in San Diego, California, and spent four years on the minesweeper USS Ptarmigan during the Korean War.
In March 1955, he was one of the first hired at the new Cabool, Missouri, shoe factory in the cutting department. He also worked at Mtn. Grove shoe factory.
July 3, 1956 he married Shirley Jean Emery in Mtn. Grove, Missouri. To this union three children were born.
In 1958 they moved to a farm north of Mtn. Grove where they spent the next 14 years. He was employed by Chrysler in 1969 and moved his family to the St. Louis area in 1972. He retired from Chrysler in December 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Debbie (Jim) Creath of High Ridge and Diane (Scott) Crespi of Sparta, New Jersey; one son, Dwain Melton of Fenton, Missouri; five grandchildren, Michael Creath, Ryan Crespi, Danielle Crespi, Ashly Melton and Corey Finley; one sister-in-law, Laura Melton; two nieces, Sherry Melton and Tricia (Michael) Knox; one brother-in-law, Doyne Emery; and five nephews, Garry (Sheryl) Emery, Randy (Gerry) Emery, Bill Middleton, Bruce (Judy) Middleton; and Brent (Sandy) Middleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Les and Alta Melton, and his brother, Bob.
The funeral was at First Baptist Church of Cedar Hill on August 23, 2011 with Pastor Wayne Kuenzle officiating and burial was at Local Cedar Hill Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers were Michael Creath, Ryan Crespi, Dale Wilson, Charles Mondy, Tom Gebeau and Ron Hauser.
