Marvin Lane Whittaker, 88, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, in Cox Medical Center South.
He was born on August 27, 1922 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.
He graduated with the Cabool High School Class of 1939.
He was a decorated World War II U.S. Navy combat veteran of the South Pacific and a career Veterans Administration personnel director.
Marvin and his wife, Alleta, celebrated 65 years of marriage on April 27, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Scott and Eunice Whittaker, and his brother, David Whittaker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alleta Whittaker of Springfield, Missouri; son Lane Whittaker of Lansing, Michigan; son Roger (Debbie) Whittaker of Dallas, Texas; son Alan (Kathy) Whittaker of Springfield, Virginia; grandson Robert Whittaker of Dallas, Texas; brother Scott Whittaker of San Francisco, California; and sister Carolee Hutcheson of Springfield, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Wednesday, May 4, 2011, with The Reverend Ken Chumbley officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial was in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
