T. Shelton Alsup

T. Shelton “Shelt” Alsup was born on March 6, 1956 in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, to Tom and Roberta (Turner) Alsup and entered into a loving rest with the Lord on August 27, 2011 after a short illness in Nebraska.

Shelt grew up on the family farm in the Denlow area, south of Mtn. Grove, Missouri, where he attended Skyline School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1974. During school he was active in FFA, National Honor Society, track, and band.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mtn. Grove.

Shelt went on to further his education at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas, where he was a member of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, president of the ASU Chapter, and played as an honorary trombonist in the honor choir called “Dad’s Bones.” He graduated in 1978 with a degree in music.

Shelt was baptized while attending college in Jonesboro. At the time of his passing the family attended Calvary Christian Church in Nebraska.

He entered the United States Air Force on July 24, 1980 and was honorably discharged with an early retirement on December 31, 1992 as a captain.

Shelt was united in marriage to Barbara Blythe on July 14, 1990. They were blessed with two children, Amy and Grant.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Barb Alsup of their home in Nebraska; his daughter, Amy Williams and husband Trent and their son, Ephraim, of Nebraska; his son, Grant Alsup of Nebraska; his father, Tom Alsup of Cabool, Missouri; his mother, Roberta Dixon of Mtn. Grove; two brothers, Dan Alsup of Mtn. Grove and Steve Alsup of Jonesboro, Arkansas; nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives who will sadly miss him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in Denlow Baptist Church at Denlow. Graveside services with full military honors will take place following the service in Denlow Cemetery.
