Vernon Dwight Bay

Vernon Dwight Bay, 73, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013. at his home.

He was born on January 20, 1939 in West Plains, Missouri, the son of Timon and Nina (Pease) Bay.

Vernon was raised in Cabool and attended Cabool High School where he would have graduated had he not decided to join the Navy. Vernon enlisted in the Navy in 1957 and served his country until 1962.

In August of 1962 Vernon married the love of his life, Wayneth Rust. To this union three girls were born: Tammy Lynn (Bay) Walker in April of 1963, Julie Ann (Bay) Driskell in January of 1965 and Kelli Jo (Bay) Brill in June of 1966.

Vernon drove a truck most of his life and was driving for CTL at the time of his retirement. After retirement Vernon devoted his time to taking care of his wife and spending time with his grandchildren.

Vernon devoted his life to taking care of his wife and helping her raise his three loving daughters. One of Vernon’s greatest joys was camping and floating with family and friends. There were many family camping trips and just as many float trips over the years. He loved his grandchildren and took great joy in all of their accomplishments and loved to tease them. Vernon was a good friend to many people and was willing to help anyone who needed it. He never went anywhere without giving out hugs to anyone who wanted or needed one. He always said that hugs always made you feel better.

He was saved at the age of 69 and devoted the rest of his years to God. He was baptized at First Freewill Baptist Church and was attending Second Baptist Church at the time of his passing.

Vernon was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wayneth Bay; his parents, Timon and Nina (Pease) Bay; his brothers, Wallin and Ronald Bay; a brother-in-law, Floyd Dishman; as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Mildred Rust.

He is survived by his three daughters, Tammy Walker, Julie Driskell and husband Jerry, and Kelli Brill, all of Cabool; his sister, Janice Dishman of Springfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Maxine Bay of Carthage, Missouri; his grandchildren, Brandon Pettijohn of Illinois, Brianna Walker of Cabool, Jordain Driskell of Cabool, Nick Driskell of Cabool, Bobbie Jo Overby of Kentucky, Deven Overby of Cabool and Abby Carr of Cabool, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
